The Bhagwant Mann government has highlighted several initiatives undertaken as part of its ‘Yudh Nashe Virudh’ campaign, aimed at strengthening drug prevention, mental health support, and addiction treatment across the state.
Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann Highlights Anti-Drug Measures
According to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), around 3,500 teachers have received specialised training in mental health awareness and first aid to help identify and support students facing emotional or behavioural challenges. The government has also introduced mindfulness classes for schoolchildren to promote mental well-being and build resilience.
The minister also said there has been a significant decline in the number of new admissions
Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh said the state has established Liquid Methadone Clinics in 12 government hospitals to expand treatment options for people recovering from opioid addiction. The clinics are intended to provide medically supervised therapy as part of the state’s de-addiction and rehabilitation efforts.
The minister also said there has been a significant decline in the number of new admissions at private de-addiction centres, which he described as an encouraging sign that more young people are moving away from substance abuse. However, no independent data was provided in the statement to verify the extent of the reported decline.
The Punjab government says its anti-drug strategy combines prevention, treatment, awareness, and rehabilitation to address substance abuse while improving access to mental health services. Officials maintain that continued collaboration between schools, healthcare institutions, and communities remains central to creating a healthier environment for Punjab’s youth and supporting long-term recovery efforts.
