Punjab CM dismisses AIG Rajjit Singh in drug smuggling case

In Punjab, the AAP government led by Bhagwant Mann took major action in the drugs case on Monday. The government has sacked AIG Rajjit Singh. This is the first case in Punjab, when a senior officer has been dismissed from service.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann gave this information by tweeting. He said that no one involved in drug trafficking would be spared. Rajit Singh has been named in drug trafficking after examining the report of sealed envelopes. Vigilance has been immediately terminated from service for investigation of money laundering action.

High Court had given orders for investigation

Rajjit Singh has been SSP in Tarn Taran, Hoshiarpur and Moga. Rajjit was currently on the post of AIG NRI. The Punjab and Chandigarh High Court had ordered the STF to investigate the case related to Inderjit Singh, including Rajjit Singh.

The High Court constituted an SIT consisting of DGP Siddharth Chattopadhyay, ADGP Prabhod Kumar and IG Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh and ordered an inquiry. The committee submitted its report to the High Court. While Siddharth Chattopadhyay submitted two separate reports to the High Court, which were in sealed envelopes.

SAD leader out on bail in this case

On May 23, 2018, the Punjab government submitted its opinion in a sealed cover to the High Court. In the year 2021, the High Court ordered to take action. After this, a case was registered against the accused SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia under the NDPS Act on 20 December 2021 in Mohali. Majithia is out on bail from the High Court in this case.
