Punjab‘s government schools are clearly changing under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Many schools have been renamed “Schools of Eminence” and now have better facilities and more up-to-date learning tools that are meant to boost both academic performance and student morale.

Rebuilding of infrastructure in several districts

The state government says that so far, more than 118 Schools of Eminence have been made better. Some of the changes that have been made are smart classes with digital boards, fast WiFi, remodelled labs with new desks, and better sports facilities. Some schools have also added auditoriums and ways for kids from far away to get to school.

Early in 2026, Punjab held a big event called “Shiksha Mahotsav,” which opened more than 350 schools with better facilities. Also, officials said that 2,261 smart classes would be built across the state. This is one of the biggest digital education drives in Punjab’s history.

Focus on Doing Well in School

The government has put a lot of emphasis on academic success as well as physical improvements. Schools of Eminence are designed to help students prepare for competitive exams like NEET and JEE by giving them job advice and one-on-one mentoring. The government says that student participation and success on national-level tests have gotten better, but long-term evaluations are still going on.

Officials say the bigger goal is to get people to trust public schools again and lessen their reliance on expensive private education.

A viral video gets more people’s attention

A student’s moving video thanking Chief Minister Mann recently went viral on social media, which brought attention to the changes. The testimonial talked about how better facilities and classrooms changed the learning setting. Supporters see it as proof of real change, but critics say that long-term academic results are what will really show how successful the effort was.

Even though there are still political arguments going on in the state, education is still a big part of how the government runs things.
