Punjab to offer culture and heritage to big-ticket investors in tourism, hospitality and wellness sectors

Military traditions of ceremonies at the International Border will also be shown

Big-ticket investors in the travel, hospitality, and wellness sectors who are expected to attend the Punjab Tourism Summit and Travel Mart, which gets underway here on Monday, will be given access to the state’s rich culture and heritage by the Punjab Government.

At the tri-junction of Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, and Himachal Pradesh, at Pathankot, they will also be shown the military customs and ceremonies at the International Border and the scenic Kandi hill regions and islands.

It is also planned to revive the long-abandoned project to build the islands of Kalara and Musharba in Pathankot’s Ranjit Sagar dam.

Pathankot tourism project would get off the ground soon

Anmol Gagan Maan, the minister of tourism in this city, told media that she was confident that the Pathankot tourism project would get off the ground soon because industry heavyweights like ITC, Club Mahindra, and Leela Group had confirmed their attendance at the summit and that the government was providing them with incentives and business-friendly policies.

“These hospitality industry captains will be taken to Pathankot on September 12 as part of the Familiarisation trip. We will also show them other places of natural beauty around Hoshiarpur and Anandpur Sahib, which can be developed as sustainable tourism spots,” she said.

Festival of Rivers

In order to attract tourists, Maan said, Pathankot also holds a Festival of Rivers. A patriotic tourism circuit that includes Wagah, Hussainiwala, and Fazilka is what the government wants to create.

“The retreat ceremony at Wagah border sees an average of 25,000 tourists daily. We will try and use this number to promote the similar ceremony at the Hussainiwala border. We will be talking to the BSF top brass to allow first-hand interaction of tourists with the personnel,” she said.

The top brass of Ramoji Film City and Imagicaa Theme Park, along with some leading Bollywood actors, are among those who have expressed a strong interest in attending the summit, the minister added. “We are looking at developing a state-of-the-art film city here,” the minister, who is herself a singer, said.
