Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Punjab Government has launched a special initiative, “Operation Rahat,” spearheaded by Education Minister S. Harjot Singh Bains. As part of this mission, the Minister has personally contributed ₹5 lakh from his family funds to repair and restore 50 flood-affected homes, giving distressed families a new ray of hope.
Although the flow of water from Bhakra Dam and Himachal Pradesh has subsided, several villages in Anandpur Sahib constituency and Nangal continue to struggle with the aftermath of devastating floods. Homes, farmlands, and roads have suffered extensive damage. Taking stock of the situation, Minister Bains and his team have been visiting these affected villages to ensure direct and timely assistance reaches the people.
What makes Operation Rahat truly unique is that Minister Bains is not just planning relief measures from his office—he is personally stepping into the field. He joined cleanliness drives in government schools alongside local sarpanches and youth volunteers. “With the support of our people and the blessings of Waheguru, we can overcome any challenge,” the Minister affirmed.
Under Operation Rahat, measures such as DDT spraying, fogging, deployment of medical teams, and veterinary doctors are actively underway to prevent post-flood diseases and ensure the well-being of livestock.
The floods have completely destroyed maize and paddy crops. To address this, for the next 10 days, field staff including patwaris, kanungos, tehsildars, SDMs, and sarpanches will remain stationed in villages to expedite compensation and deliver government schemes directly to farmers and families. Special assistance will also be given to those who lost livestock in the floods.
Minister Bains assured that data collection for damaged homes will be completed within 3–4 days and immediate restoration support will follow. “Operation Rahat will be completed on a large scale within the next 8–10 days, ensuring that people get timely relief from this disaster,” he said.
Even before the launch of Operation Rahat, Minister Bains had opened his two private residences—his ancestral home in Gambhirpur and his Sewa Sadan in Nangal—to flood victims. These places provided 24×7 shelter, food, and medical aid to affected families. “Whatever I am today, it is because of the people. In this hour of crisis, my homes remained open around the clock for every family in need,” he stated.
This initiative is not just a reflection of one Minister’s personal commitment—it is a powerful example of the Punjab Government’s sensitivity, responsibility, and dedication towards its people. Operation Rahat is fast emerging as a symbol of hope and a fresh beginning for the people of Anandpur Sahib.
