Punjab Govt Announces Rs 6k For Women On Birth Of Second Girl Child

Punjab Social Security and Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur has said that under Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, beneficiary women (lactating mothers) will be given one-time financial assistance of Rs.6000 on the birth of second girl child. Under this scheme, financial assistance of Rs.5000 is given to pregnant women and lactating mothers on the birth of first child.

Decreasing sex ratio of girl child would be improved by giving financial assistance

He said that the decreasing sex ratio of girl child would be improved by giving financial assistance of Rs.6000 after the birth of second girl child. It will also help in stopping the practice of sex selection before birth. Milk will improve the health of lactating mothers and help improve the nutritional well-being of the child. The cabinet minister said that under this scheme an amount of Rs 6000 will be directly transferred to the bank/post office account of the beneficiaries.

To avail this benefit, forms are filled on behalf of Anganwadi workers in all Anganwadi centers of Punjab. To get this benefit, every beneficiary must have an Aadhaar card and Aadhaar card must be linked with a bank account. Beneficiaries can submit their application by registering themselves on the online portal https://pmmvy.nic.in sitting at home.
