Under the campaign ‘Yudh Nashean Virudh’ (War Against Drugs), the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government is taking significant steps to make the youth drug-free and empower them with skill-based employment.
Punjab Health Minister Highlights Major De-addiction Steps for Youth
Health Minister Balbir Singh shared key updates regarding the state’s efforts:
The 50-bed de-addiction centre at Sector 66, Mohali is being upgraded to a 70-bed facility to accommodate more patients.
This centre will provide not just medical support but also skill-based training, a sports ground, a health gym, kitchen gardening facilities, a library, and other essential amenities for holistic recovery.
The government aims to rehabilitate addicted youth and shape their talents, making them employable and contributing members of society.
Arrangements are being made to provide employment opportunities in line with the skills of the recovered youth within Mohali’s industrial sector.
Additionally, a new 100-bed de-addiction centre is being set up inside a private hospital in Sohana Sahib to further strengthen the state’s rehabilitation infrastructure.
These initiatives reflect the AAP Punjab government's commitment to tackling the drug menace and ensuring a healthier, more productive future for Punjab’s youth.
In addition to infrastructure development, the Bhagwant Mann government is also focusing on awareness and outreach. Regular counseling sessions, community engagement programs, and anti-drug drives are being organized in schools, colleges, and localities to educate the youth about the harmful effects of substance abuse.
The state health department is working in collaboration with NGOs and mental health experts to ensure a supportive rehabilitation ecosystem. Moreover, the government plans to launch a dedicated helpline for families seeking help for drug-affected members, enabling quicker access to resources and timely intervention.
These holistic measures are part of Punjab’s broader strategy to not only treat addiction but to eliminate its root causes and promote a drug-free society.
