In a major push for rural infrastructure development, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, has announced the upcoming release of tenders for the renovation of over 18,900 kilometers of rural roads across the state.

According to a tweet from AAP Punjab:

“By May 30, 2025, tenders for 12,500 km and by June 15, tenders for an additional 18,900 km of village roads will be issued.”

Key Highlights of the Announcement:

Transparent Tendering Process: In an effort to eliminate corruption, the government promises a fully transparent tendering process.

5-Year Maintenance Clause: Contractors awarded the projects will be responsible for the maintenance of the roads for five years, ensuring long-term quality and accountability.

Minister's Assurance: The announcement was shared by Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Sond, reinforcing the government’s commitment to rural connectivity and public transparency.

This massive road revamp comes as part of the Mann-led government’s broader infrastructure agenda and could significantly improve transportation and economic conditions in Punjab’s villages.

This initiative is expected to generate employment opportunities in rural areas, boost local economies, and ensure better access to schools, hospitals, and markets. By holding contractors accountable for road maintenance for five years, the Bhagwant Mann government aims to break the cycle of poor-quality construction and frequent repairs that have long plagued Punjab’s road infrastructure.
