Boost in Sewerage Treatment Capacity
Punjab’s sewerage treatment capacity has seen a significant increase, with a total of 2634.15 million liters per day (MLD) now operational. An additional 492.15 MLD was added, and 52 new Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) with a combined capacity of 607 MLD are currently under construction.
Revamped Urban Infrastructure
A comprehensive Rs. 450 crore plan has been launched to overhaul urban infrastructure across the state. This includes large-scale surface water supply projects in major cities such as Amritsar, Jalandhar, and Patiala, ensuring cleaner and more reliable water supply systems for urban residents.
Commitment to Cleanliness
The Punjab government has allocated Rs. 401.73 crore under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) to enhance urban sanitation. To strengthen this effort, 730 sewer cleaning machines have been procured, which will streamline maintenance and reduce manual scavenging.
These milestones reflect the government’s commitment to sustainable urban development and environmental preservation. The newly constructed STPs and surface water supply projects aim to address critical issues like waste management and water conservation, ensuring a better quality of life for residents.
The Punjab government’s proactive approach, combined with innovative strategies and substantial investments, is paving the way for holistic urban development. The administration’s focus on long-term sustainability and infrastructure upgrades underscores its dedication to building a cleaner, greener, and more livable Punjab.
