The incident, which occurred on February 21 at the Khanauri-Data Singh Wala border, sparked outrage and demands for justice from farmer organizations and local communities alike. Just two days after the unfortunate event, CM Bhagwant Mann had announced the compensation package, which includes financial aid and a government job for the deceased farmer’s family members.

Addressing the gathering, CM Mann reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to standing by its farmers during challenging times. The compensation presentation comes after a period of agitation by the farmer organization BKU (Ekta Sidhupur), which had accused the government of delays in delivering promised support. Their concerns culminated in a recent protest march through Bathinda villages on July 7 and an upcoming demonstration scheduled for July 12 at the deputy commissioner’s office.

The compensation handover marks a significant step in addressing the grievances of the farming community, reflecting the government’s pledge to provide timely assistance and support to those affected by tragic circumstances.
