Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has called on the central government to engage in dialogue with protesting farmers, emphasizing the need for urgent resolution of their demands. In a strongly worded tweet, Mann criticized the Centre's inaction, stating, “Closing eyes like a pigeon does not make the cat go away.”

Criticizes Delay in Dialogue

Mann questioned why the Modi government has yet to address the concerns of farmers, who are protesting just 200 kilometers away. Highlighting the Prime Minister’s diplomatic efforts in international conflicts, Mann remarked, “If Modi Ji can mediate to stop the war between Russia and Ukraine, why can’t he hold talks with the farmers sitting so close to Delhi?”

A Call for Immediate Action

The Punjab CM urged the Centre to abandon its rigid stance and initiate discussions with farmer unions to address their grievances. He asked, “What are you waiting for? Which moment of divine intervention are you anticipating?” The comments reflect growing frustration among farmer organizations and Punjab’s leadership over the lack of progress in resolving ongoing issues, including demands related to Minimum Support Price (MSP) guarantees and other agricultural policies.

Farmers, often referred to as the 'annadata' or food providers of the nation, have been demanding changes to agricultural policies that they believe undermine their livelihoods. Despite previous protests leading to the repeal of the contentious farm laws, several unresolved issues remain, prompting fresh demonstrations.

Mann’s statement adds to mounting pressure on the central government to re-engage with farmer unions and address their concerns. As tensions rise, all eyes are on the Centre’s next move in resolving this critical issue.
