Punjab: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is set to confer appointment letters to ten state players, recognizing their achievements in sports. The ceremony, scheduled for Sunday at 11 a.m. will witness the players receiving appointments for the positions of Provincial Civil Services (PCS) officers and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).

Awardees Include Tokyo Olympic Heroes and Cricket Captain

The distinguished players to be honored include nine members of the Tokyo Olympic Games-winning hockey team and Indian women’s cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur. Those appointed as PCS officers comprise Indian Hockey Team players Rupinder Pal Singh, Simranjeet Singh, Hardik Singh, and Gurjant Singh.

DSP Roles for Tokyo Olympics Hockey Stars

The coveted role of Deputy SP will be bestowed upon six Tokyo Olympic heroes from the Indian Hockey Team, namely Harmpreet Singh, Mandeep Singh, Dilpreet Singh, Varun Kumar, Shamsher Singh, along with cricket captain Harmanpreet Kaur.

Historic Olympic Medal and Cricket Triumphs

The Indian men’s hockey team made history at the Tokyo Olympics by securing a bronze medal after 41 years, marking a significant resurgence. The achievement ended a prolonged podium drought since the 1980 Moscow Olympics gold.

Harmanpreet Kaur, a stalwart in women’s cricket, has led India to gold victories in the Commonwealth Games (2022) and the Asian Games, while also clinching the Asia Cup in 2022 under her captaincy. With an impressive record of 6,745 runs in 296 international games, including six centuries, she stands as a prominent figure in contemporary cricket.
