Punjab News: In October 2023, the district of Tarn Taran provided financial assistance totaling Rs 25.56 crore to 1,70,443 beneficiaries under various old age pension and financial assistance schemes. The District Social Security Officer (DSSO), Dr. Kiratpreet Kaur, revealed that the assistance amount is directly transferred to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries through online payment.
Breaking down the assistance distribution for the month of October, Dr. Kaur stated that:
- 1,15,639 beneficiaries received Rs 17.34 crore under the old age pension scheme.
- 28,661 beneficiaries received Rs 4.29 crore under the widow pension scheme.
- Dependent women and dependent children were provided with Rs 1.93 crore.
Additionally, Rs 1.98 crore was disbursed to 13,220 disabled pensioners during this period. The Punjab government’s initiative provides a monthly pension of Rs 1500 to each beneficiary under old age pension and other social security pension schemes.
Dr. Kiratpreet Kaur emphasized that the Old Age Pension Scheme by the Punjab Government targets men above 65 years of age and women above 58 years of age, providing crucial financial support to the elderly population.
