The Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Food and Civil Supplies Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak, has implemented groundbreaking initiatives in 2024 to improve transparency, efficiency, and customer welfare in the state’s food and civil supplies sector.
Key Achievements in 2024
Transparent Ration Distribution
To streamline the distribution of essential commodities, the state has deployed 14,420 E-Point of Sale (E-PoS) kits across Punjab. This step ensures that ration distribution under public welfare schemes is conducted transparently and reaches eligible beneficiaries without discrepancies.
Improved Benefits for Depot Holders
In a significant decision, the margin money for depot holders has been doubled to ₹90 per quintal—the first revision in eight years. This move is expected to boost the morale and efficiency of depot holders, who play a critical role in the supply chain.
Farmers have been a top priority, with ₹68,460 crore credited directly to their accounts for wheat and paddy procurement. This prompt and transparent payment system reinforces the state’s commitment to agricultural welfare.
Under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), 44.2 lakh quintals of free wheat have been distributed to eligible families, ensuring food security for the underprivileged.
Ensuring Fair Trade
The Legal Meteorology wing has contributed significantly to fair trade practices, earning ₹18.64 crore by enforcing regulations and ensuring accurate measurements in commercial transactions.
Punjab has achieved 100% Aadhaar saturation, ranking 7th in India. This milestone enhances the efficiency of government schemes by eliminating duplication and ensuring that benefits reach genuine beneficiaries.
These initiatives demonstrate the Punjab Government’s focus on leveraging technology and policy reforms to enhance transparency, protect customer interests, and support farmers. By prioritizing efficiency and fairness, Punjab is setting a benchmark in governance and public service.
