Punjab News: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab has expressed its support for the Mann government’s decision to amend the “The East Punjab War Awards Act, 1948” by increasing the financial assistance for 83 beneficiaries from Rs 10,000 per annum to Rs 20,000 per annum.

During a press conference at the party office in Chandigarh, AAP spokesperson Major RPS Malhotra, along with Col. Mandeep Singh (2 Sena Medals) and Naib Subedar Parmod Kumar, highlighted that the Government of Punjab provides financial assistance known as War Jagir to parents whose only child or two to three children served in the Indian Army during the Second World War, National Emergency 1962 and 1971 under the “The East Punjab War Awards Act 1948.” Currently, 83 beneficiaries are benefiting from this policy.

Punjab has announced increase in financial assistance for parents

In response to this, Punjab has announced the increase in financial assistance for parents whose only child or two to three children served in the Indian Army during the Second World War, National Emergency 1962, and 1971, raising it from Rs. 10,000 per annum to Rs. 20,000 per annum.

Major Malhotra also commended the Mann government for enhancing the ex-gratia grant for disabled soldiers. This includes raising the grant for soldiers with 76% disability to Rs 40 Lakh, soldiers with 51% to 75% disability to Rs 20 Lakh, and soldiers with 25% to 50% disability to Rs 10 Lakhs. These measures aim to ensure the well-being of ex-servicemen and their dependents, allowing them to lead a dignified life in society.

Major RPS Malhotra emphasized the Mann government’s commitment to the common people and their respect for those who serve in the army. He noted that the government doubled the ex-gratia for the families of martyred soldiers from 50 lakh to 1 crore rupees. He stressed that children from ordinary families serve the nation in the army and deserve the utmost respect, and the Mann government is dedicated to ensuring that respect.

Furthermore, Major Malhotra mentioned that Agniveers will also receive similar respect and benefits from the Punjab government. He concluded by emphasizing the significant contributions of Punjabis, who make up 2% of India’s population but contribute more than 7% to the Indian forces. Therefore, the decisions made by the Mann government hold great importance.
