Punjab News: In response to the Punjab and Haryana high court's reprimand regarding trial delays in drug-related cases due to the non-appearance of police personnel as official witnesses, the Punjab government has taken stringent measures, including the potential dismissal of negligent cops in the future.

According to the state's decision, any police officer found engaging in activities such as harboring or assisting criminals charged under the NDPS Act may face dismissal under Article 311 of the Constitution of India. Additionally, they will be charged under the relevant provisions of the NDPS Act and/or PTNDPS Act. Furthermore, any police officer attempting to protect another officer in such matters will also be subject to the same penalty.

These measures are part of an affidavit presented by Gurkirat Kirpal Singh, Punjab's Additional Chief Secretary (Home), outlining the corrective actions the state plans to undertake to address the issue of non-appearance of official prosecution witnesses in trials of cases registered under the NDPS Act, 1985.

Principal of Government Girls School in Jind, Haryana Booked Under POCSO Act

A case has been registered against the principal of a government-run girls' school in Jind, Haryana, under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act. The case was initiated following an anonymous letter from two students accusing the principal of sexual misconduct. The delay in filing an FIR raised concerns, with the chairperson of the Haryana Women's Commission demanding a comprehensive report.

A committee formed by the district education officer investigated the allegations and found them to be true. As a result, the principal had already been suspended. The anonymous letter also mentioned the involvement of a female teacher in the incident.
