In a significant initiative aimed at bolstering rural healthcare services, the Punjab state government is set to convert numerous subsidiary health centers into Aam Aadmi Clinics. These health centers, managed by the Department of Rural Development and Panchayats, have often grappled with challenges like medicine shortages and inadequate infrastructure.

Enhancing Healthcare Infrastructure:

  • The plan involves transforming rural dispensaries into Aam Aadmi Clinics to address issues of medicine supply and diagnostic services in remote areas.
  • Renovation of buildings will be undertaken to ensure improved infrastructure and overall facilities for rural healthcare.

Key Features of Aam Aadmi Clinics:

  • Aam Aadmi Clinics offer a comprehensive range of services, providing 84 essential drugs and over 40 diagnostics free of cost to the public.
  • Currently, the state operates 664 Aam Aadmi Clinics, with 236 in urban areas and 428 in rural regions.
  • These clinics are IT-enabled, featuring end-to-end digitization for registration, doctor consultations, investigations, and prescriptions.
  • Over 80 lakh patients have availed free treatments through these clinics, highlighting their significant impact.

Conversion Progress:

  • Among the 550 subsidiary health centers under the Department of Rural Development and Panchayats, 50 have already undergone conversion into Aam Aadmi Clinics.
  • The remaining 500 centers are slated for transformation into Aam Aadmi Clinics in a phased manner.
