The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab has announced a comprehensive transformation in the state's healthcare system, emphasizing preventive care, grassroots wellness, and specialized medical treatment. Sharing the vision through a tweet, Health Minister Balbir Singh highlighted the multi-level approach being taken under the leadership of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann.

“For Aam Aadmi Party, health is not just a priority—it’s a commitment,” Singh tweeted. He noted that Punjab’s healthcare system is being strengthened at all levels—from prevention to cure and from cities to villages.

Key Initiatives Driving Change

Among the flagship components of this transformation is the “Eat Right” campaign, promoting consumption of millets, fruits, and organic food to combat lifestyle diseases and malnutrition. In addition, yoga and nutrition programs are being rolled out across the state to instill holistic health practices among citizens of all age groups.

To promote physical activity from an early age, the government is ensuring the development of playgrounds in every school, fostering a culture of fitness and sports. This initiative ties into the government’s broader agenda of making health and wellness an integral part of the education system.

Another significant move is the adoption of a hub-and-spoke model for liver care, led by the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGI). This model aims to decentralize specialized liver treatment services, making them accessible even in smaller districts through satellite centers connected to major hospitals.

A Vision for Equitable Healthcare

By combining preventive strategies with robust treatment infrastructure, the Punjab government aims to reduce disease burden, increase awareness, and improve health outcomes across socio-economic strata. The campaign is being hailed as a progressive step toward making affordable, accessible, and quality healthcare a reality for all.

With such focused efforts, AAP hopes to make Punjab a model state for public health innovation and citizen-centric governance.
