Starting October 13, farmers owning less than 5 acres of land will receive free wheat seeds to help them resume cultivation and recover from crop losses. The initiative is aimed at ensuring that small and marginal farmers—who suffered the most during the floods—can replant their fields without financial burden.

In another significant move, the loan repayment deadline has been extended to June 30, 2026, providing farmers additional time to stabilize their finances. Furthermore, interest on delayed payments will be waived, reducing pressure on flood-affected cultivators already facing severe economic challenges.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann stated that his government remains deeply committed

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann stated that his government remains deeply committed to the welfare of Punjab’s farmers and will continue to support them until full recovery is achieved. He emphasized that the administration’s priority is to ensure no farmer is left behind and that the agricultural backbone of Punjab remains strong.

Officials from the agriculture department have also been directed to conduct field visits and verify the extent of flood damage, ensuring that compensation and aid reach genuine beneficiaries in a transparent and timely manner.

The announcement has been widely welcomed by farmer unions, who lauded the Mann government for responding swiftly to their concerns and prioritizing the revival of Punjab’s agrarian economy.
