The Punjab Department of Rural Development and Panchayats, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Minister Tarunpreet Sond, has announced a series of accomplishments for 2024 that have transformed the state’s villages, focusing on sustainability, education, housing, and employment.

Land Reclamation and Revenue Generation

In a significant achievement, the government reclaimed 12,809 acres of panchayati land valued at Rs. 3,080 crore. Of this, 6,000 acres were leased, generating an annual revenue of Rs. 10.76 crore.

Libraries for Rural Empowerment

To promote education and literacy, 114 rural libraries are now operational, with an additional 179 under development. The first library was inaugurated by CM Bhagwant Mann on August 15, marking a new era in rural education.

With an ambitious plantation drive, 95.03 lakh saplings were planted, contributing significantly to environmental sustainability in the state.

Under the PMAY-Gramin scheme, 5,166 houses were built at a cost of Rs. 62 crore, with a target of completing 18,000 homes by year-end. The MGNREGA scheme generated 2.15 crore person-days of employment, with an expenditure of Rs. 983.98 crores.

Promoting youth engagement, 2,461 sports grounds were completed, and work on 1,623 more is underway. These facilities aim to encourage sports and fitness in rural areas.

In a first, 3,044 panchayats were elected unanimously, reflecting community harmony. Financial assistance was announced to support their welfare initiatives.

The Punjab government’s focus on rural development has created tangible outcomes, driving progress and inclusivity in the state’s villages. These efforts underline the administration’s commitment to holistic growth and empowerment at the grassroots level.
