In a major step toward improving patient care and hospital navigation, Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGI), Chandigarh is all set to launch a smart mobile app designed to reduce the stress and confusion often faced by patients and their families during hospital visits.

Prof. Vivek Lal, Director of PGI, announced that the app is being developed in collaboration with C-DAC Noida and is expected to be operational by the end of this year. The app will provide real-time information on OPD locations, departmental blocks, crowd levels, and navigation inside the hospital, ensuring that patients no longer have to wander around seeking help.

“The app will completely transform the hospital experience,” said Prof. Lal. “It will not only provide convenience to patients but also make hospital operations more efficient and smart.”

Key Features of the Smart App:

Indoor Mapping: Users will be able to see the hospital’s interior layout, helping them navigate directly to doctors, departments, or diagnostic areas.

QR Code Access: By scanning a QR code, patients can instantly know where they need to go and the shortest path to get there.

Real-Time Information: Details on which blocks house specific OPDs and updates on where crowds are lighter will also be available.

One-Click Access to Services: From card registration to treatment in various departments, the entire patient journey will be simplified.

Officials say the app represents not just a technological upgrade, but a shift in mindset — focusing on making the patient’s journey smoother and less exhausting.

According to PGI officials, this smart app will ensure greater transparency, reduce dependence on manual information desks, and enable paperless processes, aligning with the Digital India initiative. It will also support multiple languages, making it more inclusive for patients from diverse linguistic backgrounds.

Medical Staff And Support Workers Are Also Expected To Benefit From The App

Medical staff and support workers are also expected to benefit from the app as it will streamline patient flow and reduce crowding in common areas. In the future, PGI plans to integrate features such as e-prescriptions, lab result tracking, and telemedicine support to expand the app’s utility.

Once launched, the PGI smart app is expected to set a benchmark for hospital tech integration in public healthcare across India.
