Punjab News: Punjab Gears Up for Wheat Procurement with Robust Arrangements

Punjab News: Punjab Chief Secretary Anurag Verma chaired a meeting on Wednesday to assess the preparations for the procurement of wheat, with wheat sown across 35.07 lakh hectares in the state.

Procurement Estimates and Cash Credit Limit

With an estimated wheat production of 161.30 lakh metric tons, the state is gearing up for procurement operations commencing from April 1. A cash credit limit of Rs 30,776 crore is required for procurement, of which Rs 27,077.91 crore has already been received for April. The remaining amount for May is expected to be received shortly.

Ensuring Hassle-free Procurement Process

To facilitate the procurement process, the Punjab Mandi Board has identified 1,908 regular purchase centers, which will soon be allocated to various procurement agencies. Chief Secretary Verma emphasized the need for Deputy Commissioners to ensure that farmers face no difficulties during procurement. Prompt and hassle-free payment to farmers was highlighted as a priority to streamline the procurement process in mandis.
