Punjab News: Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema has announced the approval of the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations for employees of aided educational institutions. This decision will benefit staff members working in educational institutions across the state, including those who have retired from aided schools.
Administrative Departments Ordered to Issue Notification
Cheema stated that administrative departments have been directed to issue notifications to implement the Sixth Pay Commission’s recommendations. This move is expected to improve the financial conditions of employees in aided schools and colleges.
Examination of Financial Data
The Finance Minister also mentioned that administrative departments will examine the financial data of the past three years for all aided schools and colleges. This analysis aims to provide accurate information on their financial losses, enabling a detailed proposal on the financial implications to be prepared. “After reviewing the proposals from the administrative departments, the Finance Department will provide financial approval to these institutions,” Cheema added.
Beneficiaries of the New Implementation
In a government press note, Cheema outlined that the implementation will benefit employees of aided schools and colleges under the School Education, Technical Education, and Industrial Training departments. Non-teaching staff under the Higher Education Department and retired employees of aided schools will also benefit from this decision.
Recent Protests and Previous Announcements
This announcement follows recent demonstrations by teachers outside Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s residence, where they demanded a salary hike. The Punjab government, under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, had previously announced a 4 percent increase in the dearness allowance in December 2023. This increase raised the dearness allowance for government employees in the state from 34 percent to 38 percent, effective from December 1, 2023, adding a burden of Rs 1100 crore on the government treasury.
The approval of the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations marks a significant step towards improving the financial well-being of employees in Punjab’s educational sector, reflecting the government’s commitment to supporting its workforce.
