Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on Monday that the Indian Railways has allocated ₹5421 crore to enhance railway infrastructure in Punjab. The announcement, made via video conferencing, highlighted that this year's funding is 24 times higher compared to the period between 2009-2014.

Amrit Stations and Infrastructure Development

The minister revealed that 30 Amrit Stations are being developed in Punjab at a cost of ₹1122 crore, while 34 Amrit Stations are being built in Haryana with an investment of ₹1149 crore. These upgrades aim to modernize railway stations, enhance passenger facilities, and improve overall connectivity.

Several railway stations in Punjab are undergoing major renovations, including:

Abohar

Anandpur Sahib

Bhatinda

Beas

Ferozepur

Fazilka

Hoshiarpur

Jalandhar Cantt

Ludhiana

Mansa

Malerkotla

Phagwara

Phagwara

The central government is directly overseeing the progress of these projects, ensuring timely completion and high-quality execution.

Increased Focus on Railway Safety and Expansion

The Union Minister emphasized that ₹1,16,000 crore has been allocated for railway safety and infrastructure enhancement. The focus will be on upgrading old railway tracks and strengthening the armored security system in a mission mode.

Since 2014, 382 kilometers of new railway tracks have been laid in Punjab, surpassing the total railway network of the Philippines. This reflects the government's commitment to modernizing railway infrastructure, ensuring faster, safer, and more efficient rail travel.

The massive investment in Punjab's railway network is expected to boost economic growth, improve passenger comfort, and enhance regional connectivity.
