The State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) in Amritsar has successfully dismantled a narco-terror module operated by foreign handlers. The operation has led to the arrest of two suspects, Gurjeet Singh of Dande village in Amritsar Rural and Baljit Singh of Chhapa in Tarn Taran.
The arrested individuals are reportedly involved in a grenade attack on the Police Station Islamabad on December 17, 2024. The SSOC recovered 1.4 kg of heroin, a hand grenade, and two pistols during the operation.
Details of the Arrests and Seizures
The breakthrough came as part of an extensive operation aimed at cracking down on cross-border narco-terror activities. Gurjeet Singh and Baljit Singh were apprehended following credible intelligence inputs. The recovery of heroin highlights the suspected drug trafficking connections of the module, which appear to be funding terror activities.
The hand grenade and pistols seized indicate the group's preparedness for violent activities. The December 17 attack on the Police Station Islamabad was reportedly an attempt to instill fear and disrupt peace in the region.
Further Investigations Underway
The SSOC is continuing its probe to unravel the larger network linked to these individuals. Preliminary investigations suggest that the module operated under directives from handlers based abroad. The authorities are working to identify the masterminds and collaborators involved in these activities.
Punjab Police have reaffirmed their commitment to neutralizing threats posed by narco-terrorism in the state. The operation underscores the significant challenges posed by transnational terror networks and the use of narcotics as a funding mechanism.
This operation marks another step in Punjab's ongoing fight against the dual menace of drugs and terrorism, which has been a persistent challenge for law enforcement in the border state.
