Punjab News: Due to the National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA) Project’s implementation, the Punjab Vidhan Sabha has become a paperless institution, underscoring its dedication to modernisation and transparency. This action is one of the crucial turning point in Punjab’s legislative history.
“From now on, all functioning of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha has been made paperless and all business of the forthcoming Assembly session will be completely digital and paperless”, while making the announcement said the Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan.
He emphasised how the NeVA Project will transform legislative processes, eliminate paper, and advance transparent governance. According to him, the legislative process will become more efficient, cost-effective, and reliable due to this digital change.
Role of digitalization:
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann also highlighted the crucial role that digitalization plays in enabling constituents to evaluate their representatives’ performance and equipping Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) to address public problems efficiently. He hailed Punjab for being the first State in the country to launch a number of applications, describing this move as proof of the government’s commitment to the welfare of the common people and the ongoing professional development of MLAs.
Mann pointed out that by digitising the legislative assembly, Punjab will become a pioneering state in India and its operations would be more efficient. He emphasised that NeVA will further benefit the people and that live broadcasting of Vidhan Sabha proceedings had already been put into place.
The Chief Minister called it a “revolutionary step aimed at making the legislatures more effective and responsive” and said it was a source of great pride and joy that Punjab’s Vidhan Sabha was the first in the nation to introduce various applications.
Paving way for drafting and passing of the various pro-people bills
This move, in the Chief Minister’s viewpoints, will help MLAs on both the opposition and treasury benches, and “I hope this will pave the way for the drafting and passing of the various pro-people bills in the coming times,” he said. “Attendance of esteemed MLAs will be marked in the House through this unique application. Punjab is the first state to adopt state of the art digitization process,” he said, adding that this new system will end the obsolete paper system resulting in saving the trees. “AAP Government has already presented two paperless budgets for the sake of the environment,” he further added.
The NeVA Project will improve public access to legislative sessions through live webcasting and the introduction of a number of digital functionalities. Along with this, the Punjab Vidhan Sabha Secretariat will transition to a more organised and paperless method of operation, providing members and staff with paperless facilities.
The National Informatics Centre (NIC), Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Government of India, Department of Administrative Reforms, Punjab, and the employees of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha were all thanked by Sandhwan for their tireless efforts in making the initiative a reality.
