Punjab Police: Bhagwant Mann government intensifies crackdown on cross-border drug cartels

The operation underscores the Bhagwant Mann government’s firm stance against drug trafficking, with the Punjab Police intensifying its efforts to curb the narcotics menace that has long plagued the state.

In a major intelligence-led operation, the Counter Intelligence wing of Punjab Police, Ferozepur, has successfully busted a cross-border drug cartel. The team arrested one operative, Gurpreet Singh alias Gora, and recovered 5 kilograms of heroin from his possession.

According to officials, preliminary investigations revealed that the heroin consignment was smuggled from across the border by Pakistan-based smugglers. An FIR has been registered at the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC), Fazilka, and further investigations are underway to trace both backward and forward linkages of the network.

Police commitment to a drug-free Punjab

The Punjab Police, under the direction of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, reiterated its commitment to dismantling trans-border narco networks and protecting the youth from drug addiction. Officials confirmed that the department continues to strengthen coordination with intelligence agencies and border security forces to ensure tighter surveillance and timely action.

Strengthening border vigilance

In recent months, Punjab Police has ramped up border-area patrolling and drone monitoring, focusing on regions vulnerable to cross-border smuggling. Authorities are also working to trace financial transactions linked to these operations, aiming to choke funding sources that sustain drug cartels.
