In a significant breakthrough against cross-border arms trafficking, the Counter Intelligence Unit of Punjab Police in Amritsar has apprehended two key operatives involved in smuggling illegal weapons from Pakistan. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, officials arrested Sukhchain Singh and Jugraj Singh, who were intercepted while transporting a fresh consignment of arms allegedly sent by Pakistan-based smuggler Noor.

The operation led to the seizure of eight sophisticated weapons, including:

Three Glock 9mm pistols

Four Px5 pistols

One .30 bore pistol

An FIR has been

registered at Police Station SSOC, Amritsar, and further investigation is underway to track down other members of the smuggling network and determine the full scope of the cross-border nexus.

“@PunjabPoliceInd remains committed to neutralising such modules and ensuring the safety and security of the state,” said the DGP Punjab via social media.

This development highlights the continued vigilance of Punjab Police in preventing illegal arms infiltration into the state and dismantling terrorist supply chains linked to Pakistan. More arrests and recoveries are likely as the probe progresses.

Growing Concern Over Cross-Border Smuggling Routes

According to police sources, the smuggling module was part of a larger syndicate operating across the India-Pakistan border, using well-established routes in the border districts of Punjab. Intelligence inputs have indicated a pattern of increased arms drops coordinated by handlers based in Pakistan, often using drones or human couriers.

Officials also suspect the recovered weapons were intended to be delivered to local gangsters or sleeper cells for possible use in criminal or terrorist activities, posing a serious threat to internal security.

The Punjab Police has intensified surveillance and coordination with central intelligence agencies to trace financial transactions, digital footprints, and communication records linked to the arrested operatives.
