In a significant breakthrough under the ongoing campaign #YudhNashianVirudh (War Against Drugs), the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of Punjab Police, Border Range Amritsar, has arrested Jobanjit Singh alias Joban from Kotli Sur Singh village in Tarn Taran district. The accused is allegedly linked to Pakistan-based smugglers, and the arrest marks a major step in disrupting cross-border drug trafficking networks.
Punjab Police Busts Major Drug Smuggling Operation
According to a tweet from DGP Punjab Police, the operation led to the seizure of 3.105 kg of heroin, two country-made pistols (.32 bore), 25 live cartridges (.32 bore), 12 cartridges (12 bore), two magazines, and a digital weighing scale.
Heroin, Weapons Recovered in Tarn Taran
Initial investigations reveal that Jobanjit Singh had been receiving regular heroin consignments from across the international border. He also has a criminal history, indicating deeper involvement in organized narcotics trafficking.
An FIR has been registered at Police Station ANTF, SAS Nagar, and further investigations are underway to dismantle the entire narco network associated with the accussed.
The Punjab Police reaffirmed their commitment to combatting the drug menace and safeguarding the youth of the state from the grip of narcotics.
Officials stated that the recovered weapons indicate the possibility of armed resistance during smuggling activities, highlighting the increasing boldness of drug syndicates. The recovery of a digital scale also suggests that the accused was involved in repackaging heroin for local distribution.
The Punjab Police emphasized that anti-drug operations will continue at full scale, with special focus on border districts like Tarn Taran, which are particularly vulnerable due to their proximity to Pakistan. The force reiterated its commitment to protecting Punjab’s youth and ensuring that such elements are swiftly brought to justice.
