In a significant breakthrough, Batala Police have dismantled a major extortion racket operated by USA-based Gurdev Jassal and arrested two individuals involved in the criminal operation.

Key Details of the Investigation

On February 4, Jassal’s associates opened fire at a petrol pump belonging to a businessman based in Kalanaur.

The businessman received continuous threat calls demanding ₹1 crore.

Under pressure, he eventually paid ₹50 lakh on February 11.

Police Action & Arrests

Based on technical investigation, Punjab Police arrested:

✔ ASI Surjit Singh

✔ Ankus Maini

Both were actively involved in collecting and distributing the extorted money. The police revealed that Jassal’s gang used foreign phone numbers to issue threats and coordinate payments through multiple intermediaries to evade detection.

✔ ₹83 lakh cash

✔ Illegal weapons

✔ Luxury vehicles
