The Punjab government has constituted a four-member Fact-Finding Committee/Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the issue of illegal human trafficking and migration, particularly concerning the deportation of Indian citizens domiciled in Punjab from the United States.
The SIT will be chaired by Sh. Parveen Sinha, IPS, ADGP NRI, and includes Sh. Shive Verma, IPS, ADGP/Internal Security, Dr. S. Boopathi, IPS, IGP/Provisioning, and Sh. Satinder Singh, IPS, DIG Border Range. This team has been tasked with conducting a thorough investigation and taking appropriate legal action against individuals involved in illegal migration and human trafficking.
Crackdown on Illegal Migration
With rising concerns over human trafficking networks operating in Punjab, the SIT has been directed to identify culprits, dismantle illegal operations, and take strict legal measures. The investigation will focus on agents, facilitators, and networks responsible for unlawful migration routes that lead to deportation and hardship for individuals seeking opportunities abroad.
To ensure an effective probe, the SIT has been given the authority to co-opt other police officers as needed. Additionally, Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) and Commissioners of Police have been instructed to provide full cooperation, infrastructure, and necessary assistance to the investigating team.
State’s Commitment to Curb Human Trafficking
This move highlights the Punjab government’s strong stance against human trafficking and its commitment to protecting citizens from exploitation. The SIT is expected to gather evidence, identify those involved, and recommend policy measures to curb such illegal practices.
The investigation is expected to unravel key links in the human trafficking chain and bring perpetrators to justice, ensuring that strict action is taken against those responsible for putting innocent lives at risk.
