Punjab Police Intensifies Anti-Drug Drive Under Bhagwant Mann Government, 87 Smugglers Arrested in Major Crackdown

Punjab Police carried out a major anti-drug crackdown under the Bhagwant Mann government, arresting 87 smugglers and recovering heroin, intoxicant tablets, and drug money.

Punjab is now seeing a revival and intensification of the anti-drug movement as the Punjab State Police continues its rigorous crackdown on drug cartels led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. 

Major Operation Against Drug Cartels

The special campaign was undertaken with the objective of destroying drug chains running across the districts of Punjab. The police carried out simultaneous raids in different places against street-level dealers as well as bigger suppliers engaged in the drug trade.Through the course of this operation, 1.8 kg of heroin, 401 intoxicant pills, and ₹11.12 lakh of drug money were seized from the accused persons. It was said by the officials that this move is a part of an ongoing process to rid the state of the drug menace.

Rehabilitation Efforts Alongside Enforcement

Along with strict enforcement, Punjab Police also focused on rehabilitation efforts. Nine individuals, identified as drug users, were counselled and encouraged to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment. Officials emphasized that the government’s approach is not only punitive but also reformative, aiming to help addicts reintegrate into society through proper medical and psychological support.

Government’s Zero-Tolerance Policy on Drugs

Under the leadership of Bhagwant Mann, the Punjab government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards drug trafficking. Continuous operations are being conducted to disrupt supply chains and identify key players behind the illegal drug trade. Police officials also stated that intelligence-based operations will continue in the coming days to ensure sustained pressure on drug networks across the state.

The recent arrests are expected to significantly disrupt local drug distribution networks. Authorities believe that sustained enforcement, combined with public awareness and rehabilitation initiatives, will help reduce drug dependency in Punjab. The government has reiterated its commitment to making Punjab a drug-free state through strict law enforcement and community participation.
