According to a tweet from DGP Punjab Police, the accused is a habitual offender with a history of NDPS violations, Arms Act cases, and snatching crimes. The arrest was made during a coordinated intelligence-based operation aimed at dismantling gangster networks operating in the region.
History of Crime and Ongoing Probe
Sukhbir Singh was wanted in an FIR registered at Police Station Sarhali, Tarn Taran, and had been on the run since the murder. His arrest is expected to shed light on the wider criminal network involved in violent crimes and drug trafficking.
The police confirmed that further investigations are underway to identify his associates and uncover the full scope of his illegal operations.
“Punjab Police remains committed to ensuring justice for victims of crime and keeping the state safe and secure,” the DGP’s office affirmed.
This development comes amid intensified efforts by Punjab Police to crack down on gangster activities and re-establish law and order in sensitive districts.
This high-profile arrest marks another milestone in Punjab’s aggressive stance against gangsterism, which has been under sharp public and political scrutiny in recent months. The AGTF, set up specifically to neutralize such threats, has been working in tandem with local police units to track, trace, and apprehend gangsters involved in inter-district and inter-state crimes. Officials believe that the interrogation of Sukhbir Singh will not only provide leads in the Sarpanch Bikkar murder case, but also help crack wider syndicates operating across northern India.
