In a significant breakthrough, Counter Intelligence Amritsar has busted an illegal weapons smuggling module with international links to the United States, arresting Gurwinder Singh alias Guri from Ludhiana.

Weapons Smuggling Tied to USA-Based Handlers

Acting on specific intelligence, the police recovered five illegal pistols from Gurwinder's possession. As per initial investigations, he was acting on the directions of Gurlal Singh and Vipul Sharma, both currently residing in the USA and believed to be key players in this growing transnational arms syndicate.

Network Being Run From Abroad by Fugitive Gangsters

Investigations revealed that Gurwinder was acting under the instructions of Gurlal Singh and Vipul Sharma, both currently residing in the USA. These individuals are suspected to be masterminds orchestrating arms trafficking across international borders using local operatives in Punjab.

Officials say these foreign-based handlers have set up a transnational crime syndicate that exploits familial ties and trusted associates in India for on-ground operations.

Family Link to Notorious Drug Smuggler

Police also revealed that Gurwinder is the brother-in-law of Hardeep Singh, a known drug smuggler who fled to the USA in 2022 after being arrested in a 2020 STF case. Hardeep and Gurlal are suspected of building an overseas network and are allegedly operating the smuggling ring via local agents in Punjab.

FIR Registered, Probe Underway

An FIR has been filed at SSOC Amritsar, and investigations are ongoing to uncover all backward and forward linkages in the racket. The Punjab Police reiterated its commitment to dismantle such networks and uphold peace and security in the state.
