Punjab to Become India’s First State with Modern Sports Stadiums in Every Village: Anurag Dhanda

These stadiums will cater to both traditional and contemporary sports, including kabaddi, wrestling, volleyball, and football — games deeply rooted in Punjab’s culture and identity.

In a historic step toward transforming rural sports infrastructure, Punjab is set to become the first Indian state to have modern sports stadiums in every village, AAP leader Anurag Dhanda announced. The initiative aims to empower the youth, promote physical fitness, and create world-class sports facilities at the grassroots level.

3,100 Modern Sports Grounds Across Punjab

The Punjab government has approved the construction of 3,100 modern sports grounds under this mega project. These stadiums will cater to both traditional and contemporary sports, including kabaddi, wrestling, volleyball, and football — games deeply rooted in Punjab’s culture and identity.

Facilities for All Age Groups

Each stadium will be equipped with modern amenities, such as walking tracks, children’s swings, benches for seating, and separate washrooms for women, ensuring accessibility for families and inclusivity for women and children. The focus is on creating safe, community-friendly spaces where residents can exercise, train, and socialize.

Budget and Implementation

The state has earmarked a ₹1,194 crore budget for this initiative, making it one of the largest rural sports infrastructure investments in India. The project will be implemented in phases to ensure quality construction, timely completion, and uniform access across all districts.

Reviving Punjab’s Sporting Legacy

Punjab has historically been home to some of India’s finest athletes, especially in kabaddi, hockey, and wrestling. With this project, the Mann government aims to revive the state’s sporting spirit by nurturing young talent and providing them with the infrastructure they deserve.

Government’s Vision: From Villages to Victory

According to Anurag Dhanda, the vision behind the initiative is to turn every village into a cradle of champions. “Sports not only build physical strength but also character, teamwork, and discipline. Punjab’s youth have the potential to excel at the global level if provided with the right facilities,” he said.

Promoting Health, Fitness, and Social Harmony

Beyond competition, the project focuses on promoting fitness and mental well-being among citizens. The inclusion of walking tracks and open community areas will help transform these grounds into social and recreational hubs, strengthening community bonds and encouraging a healthier lifestyle.
