Punjab Transport Minister orders Secretaries, RTAs, and SDMs to launch combined checking effort to deal firmly with traffic violators

In order to ensure that every traffic offender receives stern punishment, Punjab Transport Minister S. Laljit Singh Bhullar ordered all Secretaries of RTAs and SDMs to undertake a rigorous joint checking exercise on Saturday. In a letter to Secretaries RTAs and SDMs, the Cabinet Minister indicated that the government has taken serious note of the rulings and directions occasionally granted by the honourable courts, which require intensive traffic checks.

The transport minister also provided directions to school administrations on how to properly implement the “Safe School Vahan Scheme” at their institutions in order to get ready for the start of the new academic year and to guarantee student safety. He further stated that it would not be acceptable to put off taking action to ensure student safety. The Cabinet Minister also instructed the Secretaries RTAs and SDMs to expedite traffic checks in order to ensure strict adherence to the periodic road safety recommendations made by the Committee on Road Safety, which was created by the Hon. Supreme Court.

Procrastination with safety of students will not be tolerated

The Transport Minister stated that this is a serious issue and that the safety of students riding in school buses is the collective responsibility of the concerned departments. “Under the Safe School Vahan scheme of the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann led government, school buses must be checked,” the Transport Minister added.

RTA Secretaries to coordinate with SDM’s to prepare required schedule and initiate joint cheking

In accordance with the letter, the Regional Transport Authority shall coordinate with the SDMs under their supervision to prepare the required schedule and conduct a joint checking campaign as soon as possible. The cabinet minister, Laljit Singh Bhullar, has stated that this issue would be reviewed in the upcoming state-level conference of regional officers and that he will personally evaluate the steps taken by the concerned officials.
