Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has taken a nostalgic step towards reviving Punjab's rich rural heritage by reintroducing bullock cart races—a tradition that once formed the soul of village life.

Sharing the update live from Mahima Singh Wala village in Ludhiana, CM Mann tweeted in Punjabi and Hindi:

“We are reviving the forgotten heritage of our villages. Receiving immense love and respect from people for the decision to restart bullock cart races.”

The move is being widely appreciated across rural Punjab, where many feel that traditions like bullock cart races bring back community spirit and reconnect younger generations with their cultural roots.

A Cultural Revival

The bullock cart race, once a celebrated rural sport in Punjab, had gradually faded over the years due to urbanization and restrictions. By reinstating this traditional race, the Mann government aims to rebuild a cultural bridge between the past and the present, celebrating indigenous ways of life that define Punjab’s agrarian identity.

Local villagers welcomed the initiative with enthusiasm and large gatherings were seen at the event in Mahima Singh Wala. Folk music, traditional attire, and community participation added vibrancy to the live event.

More Than Just a Race

Beyond the symbolic revival of a sport, the initiative also intends to boost rural tourism, encourage cultural preservation, and provide recreational platforms in village settings. Officials hinted that similar events will be held across other districts in Punjab in the coming months.

With this move, Bhagwant Mann has once again positioned himself as a leader keen on grassroots revival, emphasizing that development should not come at the cost of heritage.
