Punjab has ramped up its war on drugs with a broad state-wide operation ordered by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. As part of one of the largest drug busts in recent years, Punjab Police arrested over 48,800 individuals suspected of dealing drugs and took more than 2 tons of heroin off the streets, demonstrating strong government intent to put an end to the problem of drugs, which has harmed thousands of families in Punjab.

Record Seizures and Aggressive Policing

Police Officials and Drug Traffickers Work Together: Drug Trafficking Networks operating within and outside of Punjab have been found to be a problem, according to police officials. Large Seizures of heroin (one of the most popular drugs smuggled across border) have occurred during coordinated raids, checkpoints, and intelligence-led operations that were all done in conjunction with each other. Officers indicated that the ongoing investigation was conducted through the use of sustained surveillance, special task force, and strict enforcement within sensitive areas of the border.

Focus on Rehabilitation Alongside Enforcement

Bhagwant Mann News: The Punjab Government has placed a strong emphasis on de-addiction and rehabilitation in addition to making arrests and conducting seizures. Therefore, this has helped encourage thousands of people affected by substance abuse to reach out for assistance through government-run de-addiction facilities. The government has also been implementing programs to promote awareness of addiction through various educational forums and conducting counseling programs in order to provide medical treatment and psychological support to those affected by addiction.

A Dual Strategy: Punishment and Prevention

The State’s Strategy for Drug Trafficking is Two-Fold – To Punish Drug Traffickers and to Prevent an Increase in Drug Addicts. The Government is Targeting Both the Supply and Demand Aspects of Drugs to Create Long-Term Results Instead of Short-Term Ones.

Public Support and Future Action

In partnership with the drug enforcement authorities, citizens, health professionals, and social services have come together in support of an anti-drug initiative. Expecting increased enforcement during the next several months are law enforcement officials as they continue to engage in active and aggressive efforts in providing a drug-free Punjab.
