After experiencing a dry winter with minimal rainfall in January and February, this upcoming weather system brings the promise of substantial precipitation. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the Western Himalayan Region is expected to witness heavy rain and snowfall, with implications for the adjoining northwestern plains.

Western Disturbance Influence and Weather Shift

A new western disturbance is on the horizon, set to influence the weather pattern in Northwestern India. This disturbance is anticipated to bring about a notable shift, heralding the end of a dry winter period. The Western Himalayan Region is likely to experience the most substantial impact, with heavy rain and snowfall in the forecast.

Precipitation Outlook for Northwestern Plains

As the western disturbance progresses, the plains of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan are expected to witness scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate showers. The accompanying weather conditions may include thunderstorms and lightning, adding to the dynamic nature of the anticipated precipitation.

Punjab is singled out in the forecast, with expectations of isolated heavy rains (64.5 mm-115.5 mm) on Saturday, March 2. This localized heavy rainfall suggests a potential impact on the region, requiring residents to be prepared for significant precipitation.

The upcoming wet conditions are attributed to the combined influence of the approaching western disturbance and a high moisture influx from the Arabian Sea. This collaboration is expected to create an environment conducive to intense precipitation activity.
