Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has made explosive allegations of large-scale electoral fraud during the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections, calling the process a "blueprint for subverting democracy." In a detailed article shared via social media, Gandhi claimed the elections were manipulated through a calculated, step-by-step conspiracy aimed at benefiting the ruling BJP.

“It Wasn’t Just Tampering — It Was Institutional Capture”

Gandhi accused the government of systematically undermining democratic institutions and processes to fix the outcome of the elections. According to him, the manipulation unfolded in five deliberate steps:

Control over Election Commission Appointments:

He pointed to the 2023 Election Commissioner Act, which allowed the Prime Minister and Home Minister to dominate the appointment panel, sidelining the voice of the Leader of Opposition and replacing the Chief Justice of India with a Cabinet Minister.

Addition of Fake Voters to Electoral Rolls:

Gandhi claimed that large numbers of fraudulent voters were inserted into voter lists in key constituencies.

Artificially Inflated Turnout Figures:

He alleged that voter turnout percentages were deliberately exaggerated to create a false sense of legitimacy.

Targeted Booth-Level Fraud:

According to him, "targeted fake voting" was orchestrated specifically in seats where the BJP needed to win.

Suppression of Evidence:

Gandhi stated that crucial records and data that could have exposed the malpractice were either hidden or destroyed.

“This Is Electoral Match Fixing, Not a Democratic Exercise”

Drawing a stark analogy, Gandhi said, “Election rigging is like match fixing. The side that cheats may win, but it weakens public trust and damages democratic institutions.” He emphasized that this form of political manipulation erodes voter confidence and sets a dangerous precedent for future elections.

Gandhi also claimed that BJP's "panic" in Maharashtra was a reaction to their declining popularity and that the tactics used there would be replicated in Bihar and other states where the party is facing electoral defeat.

“Citizens Must Seek the Truth”

Urging every responsible citizen to examine the available evidence and question the legitimacy of the election process, he called for greater public awareness and scrutiny.

"I'm not saying every election is rigged, but what happened in Maharashtra can't be ignored," he wrote. “This isn’t about minor irregularities — it’s about hijacking national institutions and orchestrating systematic fraud.”
