The Engineers (JEN) from the Electricity Department in Jaipur are currently engaged in a dharna, demanding the implementation of a budget announcement that promised promotion scales. This movement has gained momentum as the Engineers from the Kota division have also joined in solidarity. Adding to the pressure, 76 Engineers from the Rajasthan State Electricity Broadcasting Corporation have submitted a letter of support to the CMD (Chief Managing Director), warning of a planned mass leave starting next Monday if their demands are not addressed within three days.
Uniting Support from Kota Division and Threat of Mass Leave
Ravi Prakash Gupta, the Divisional President of the Power Engineers Association of Rajasthan in Kota, emphasized that Junior Engineers (JEN) have been grappling with salary and ACP (Assured Career Progression) disparities for a considerable period. Despite the passage of time, a permanent solution to this ongoing issue has not been realized. In discussions conducted with the organization, led by the Energy Minister in 2022, a written assurance was provided that a comprehensive resolution would be reached within 90 days. This commitment aimed to rectify the salary and ACP discrepancies and was deemed justified. Regrettably, even after a year has transpired, this assurance remains unfulfilled.
As an act of protest, the Engineers have initiated a substantial strike within Jaipur. Engineers specializing in transmission, distribution, and thermal functions from Kota have also lent their support to the cause. Commencing from Monday, a significant number of Engineers will commence a mass leave. This includes 176 Engineers from the Broadcasting Corporation, 50 to 60 Engineers from the Distribution Corporation, and approximately 70 Junior Engineers from the Thermal sector. The decision to go on mass leave is likely to impact essential tasks such as load management and grid operations.
In summary, Engineers belonging to the Electricity Department in Jaipur are staging a protest to demand the implementation of promised promotion scales. The movement has gained traction with support from Kota division Engineers and warnings of mass leave from Engineers within the Broadcasting, Distribution, and Thermal sectors. This united action underscores the urgency of resolving long-standing salary and career progression discrepancies, with potential repercussions on load management and grid functioning due to the Engineers’ absence.
