The controversy surrounding the upcoming IIFA Awards 2025 in Jaipur continues to escalate. Renowned singer Sonu Nigam has accused the event organizers and the Rajasthan administration of pressuring the nomination process after failing to secure a spot in the Best Playback Singer category. Following his remarks, eminent folk singer and actress Ila Arun also voiced her displeasure over the exclusion of local artists from the grand event.

Sonu Nigam took to social media to express his frustration after not finding his name in the nominations. He sarcastically wrote, "Thank you, IIFA... after all, you had to answer Rajasthan bureaucracy too." The singer had expected a nomination for his hit song from Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 but was left disappointed. Without directly naming anyone, Nigam hinted that the Rajasthan administration may have influenced the organizers' decisions.

This is not the first time Sonu Nigam has clashed with the Rajasthan government. A similar incident occurred in December 2024 during the Rising Rajasthan event when the Chief Minister of Rajasthan walked out in the middle of his performance. At that time, Nigam openly criticized the gesture, saying, "If you had to leave, why come at all?"

Ila Arun Criticizes Neglect of Folk Artists

Adding to the controversy, Rajasthan’s celebrated folk singer and actress Ila Arun expressed her discontent over the exclusion of local talent from IIFA 2025. She questioned the commitment to the Vocal for Local initiative, stating that while Rajasthan’s artists are invited to perform abroad, they are ignored when a major event is hosted in their own state.

She further pointed out that while the traditional Rajasthani dance Ghoomar was showcased at the event, local folk dancers were not given the opportunity to perform. Accusing the organizers of favoritism, she remarked that calling every grand event a Kumbh (a sacred congregation) does not justify overlooking local artists.

With prominent voices raising concerns, the debate over inclusivity and fair representation at IIFA 2025 continues to intensify, putting the event organizers under scrutiny.
