Manvendra Singh Jasol, the son of veteran politician Jaswant Singh Jasol, has contested elections thrice in Barmer – twice as a Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) and once as a Member of Parliament (MP). While he contested two elections on BJP tickets, he entered the electoral fray on a Congress ticket in one election. Notably, Jasol had left the BJP in 2018 amid differences with former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, joining the Congress party.
Jasol’s return to the BJP has been strategically orchestrated by the party leadership, given the intense competition anticipated on the Barmer Lok Sabha seat. Shiv MLA and former BJP leader Shiv have entered the electoral arena as an independent candidate from this seat, posing a formidable challenge. However, Jasol’s entry into the BJP is expected to tilt the scales in the party’s favor, consolidating support from the Rajput community.
Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to address a massive rally in Barmer today, where Jasol’s formal induction into the BJP is expected to take place. With Jasol’s re-entry into the BJP, the party’s prospects in Barmer are poised to strengthen, posing a formidable challenge to the fragmented political landscape in the region.
