The Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government has intensified its crackdown on corruption and drug-related crimes, taking strong administrative action against officials found negligent in their duties. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) said the move reflects the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards corruption and narcotics in the state.
Major Action by Bhagwant Mann Government Against Corruption
As part of the action, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Sangat police station in Bathinda district has been suspended for alleged laxity in dealing with drug trafficking cases. The government stated that any negligence in action against drug smugglers will not be tolerated and strict accountability will be enforced at every level of policing.
In another significant move, the Amritsar Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Vigilance, has also been suspended in connection with a corruption-related matter. Officials said the action was taken under vigilance provisions, signalling that even senior officers will face consequences if found involved in or negligent towards corrupt practices.
AAP Punjab said the Mann government is committed to rooting out corruption
AAP Punjab said the Mann government is committed to rooting out corruption and eliminating the drug network from the state. The party reiterated that protecting honest officers while taking strict action against wrongdoing is a key pillar of the current administration.
The government further clarified that such actions are part of a larger systemic reform aimed at improving accountability and efficiency within the police and vigilance departments. Regular performance reviews, surprise inspections, and tighter monitoring mechanisms are being put in place to ensure that officers act decisively against drug traffickers and corrupt elements without fear or favour.
AAP leaders said the Bhagwant Mann government will continue to take tough decisions in the interest of the public and the youth of Punjab. Emphasising its commitment to a drug-free and corruption-free Punjab, the government appealed to citizens to cooperate with authorities and report any wrongdoing, assuring that every credible complaint will be acted upon strictly and transparently.
The developments underline the Punjab government’s broader campaign to clean up governance, strengthen law enforcement, and restore public trust by ensuring transparency and strict discipline within the system.
