Rajasthan: According to sources, Congress politician Ajay Maken has resigned from his position as the party's Rajasthan in-charge, showing his displeasure with the course of events in late September when Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot at the last minute refused to relinquish the position to run for Congress president.
In protest against the likelihood that Mr. Gehlot would be replaced in Rajasthan by his competitor Sachin Pilot if he campaigned for Congress president, over 90 MLAs who support Mr. Gehlot skipped a crucial party meeting in favour of going to the Speaker and resigning there.
According to sources, Mr. Maken anticipated the party to take action against the MLAs, but since this did not occur, he decided to resign as the Congress's in-charge of Rajasthan.
In his letter of resignation, Mr. Maken stated, "Wedded to the ideology of Congress for the last three generations and being in active Congress politics for over 40 years, I will always remain an ardent follower of Rahul ji, whom I trust and have faith in beyond words."
The rights of street vendors and slum residents, for whom he made "specific valuable contributions" as a union minister as well as a state minister, were among the issues Mr. Maken planned to focus his work on in Delhi through trade unions and non-profits.

Mr. Maken requested that the party name a new in-charge for Rajasthan
Before the Bharat Jodo Yatra enters the state in the first week of December, Mr. Maken requested that the party name a new in-charge for Rajasthan.
Before the Bharat Jodo Yatra enters the state in the first week of December, Mr. Maken requested that the party name a new in-charge for Rajasthan. On December 4, there will also be a by-election.
Mr. Maken demanded action specifically against three MLAs during the September crisis: Mahesh Joshi, Dharmendra Rathore, and Shanti Dhariwal. These three MLAs had organised a parallel gathering of MLAs to adopt a resolution declaring that they would only accept Mr. Gehlot as Chief Minister.
Other issues that displeased Mr. Maken were little follow-up on show-cause orders issued to MLAs who supported Mr. Gehlot and the absence of a Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting, according to sources.
According to reports, Mr. Maken claimed that Rajasthan needs a new governor after everything that had occurred while he was in charge. Mr. Maken was also criticised by the MLAs who supported Mr. Gehlot for trying to convince Mr. Gehlot to run for Congress president in order to give Mr. Pilot the top job.

He skipped a meeting to discuss the Bharat Jodo Yatra of the Congress.
Additionally, Mr. Maken's resignation comes barely two weeks after Mr. Pilot demanded that the political unrest in Rajasthan come to an end and advocated for action against MLAs who supported Mr. Gehlot. On November 2, Mr. Pilot declared, "It's time to put an end to Rajasthan's climate of indecision.
