Rajasthan Congress has distanced itself from Sachin Pilot's Jan Sangharsh Yatra which started from Ajmer. State Congress Committee President Govind Singh Dotasara said that this is Sachin Pilot's personal visit and the party has nothing to do with it. He said that the yatra of the Congress would be called the one which has the party symbol and photographs of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and party leaders.
Former Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot announced on Tuesday (May 9) that he would take out a five-day march from Ajmer to Jaipur on corruption and other issues.
Party advantage or disadvantage?
In response to this question, the state chief Dotasara said that Congress Yatra is taken out when AICC or state units give a program for it. This is his (Sachin Pilot's) personal journey, not the organizational journey of the Congress. Asked whether it would benefit or harm the party just months before the assembly elections in Rajasthan, Dotasara said it was for the party leadership to decide.
“The party high command has to take a decision on this,” he said.
Pilot, the Congress MLA from Tonk, began his 125-km 'Jan Sangharsh Yatra' from Ajmer on Thursday (May 11).
Before starting the march, Pilot addressed a public meeting on the Jaipur Highway and said that his march was not against anyone but against corruption and to protect the interests of the youth of the state.
Sachin Pilot has been in a power struggle with Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot ever since the Congress formed the government in Rajasthan in 2018. He had also revolted against Ashok Gehlot in July 2020 but he was unsuccessful in this.
Sachin Pilot has in recent weeks accused the state government of inaction in cases of alleged corruption during the previous Vasundhara Raje government and also sat on a day-long dharna in Jaipur last month.
Assembly elections are due in Rajasthan later this year and Pilot's visit is set to put pressure on Gehlot and the central leadership of the Congress.
