Rajasthan News: Nearly 700 teachers from 17 government medical colleges in Rajasthan have announced plans to go on mass leave starting from July 22. This collective action is in response to grievances against the state government's exclusion of teachers appointed before August 1, 2024, from the Rajasthan Service Rules, which has led to significant disparities in pay and service conditions.

Issue with RajMES Service Rules

Currently, the society's service rules are applied to these teachers. However, medical teachers have been advocating for the adoption of the Rajasthan Civil Services (Revised Pay) Rules by the society, citing several anomalies in the existing rules. Dr. Rajendra Yadav, vice president of the RajMES RMCTA welfare society, explained, "The government recently announced in the state budget that the Rajasthan Civil Services Rules will be adopted in the RajMES, which was welcomed by the teachers' association."

  • Concerns Over Pay Disparity

The announcement was initially met with approval. However, it was later revealed that these rules would only apply to teachers appointed on or after August 1, 2024. This decision has raised concerns about pay disparity among the medical teachers. Dr. Yadav highlighted the issue, stating, "It has come to our notice that the finance department has decided that the medical teachers appointed in RajMES before August 1, 2024, will be a ‘dying cadre’ and existing rules of the society will be applicable to them, whereas the Rajasthan Civil Services (Revised Pay) Rules-2017 will be applicable to teachers appointed on or after August 1, 2024."

"This will create a huge pay disparity among the medical teachers," he added.

Protest for Fair Treatment

The impending mass leave by the teachers is a protest against this disparity and an appeal for fair and equal treatment under the Rajasthan Civil Services Rules. The medical teachers hope that their action will prompt the state government to address their concerns and implement a uniform set of rules for all medical teachers, ensuring equitable pay and service conditions across the board.

The teachers' association is calling for immediate government intervention to resolve the issue and prevent the escalation of the protest, which could significantly impact medical education and services in the state.
