In a major decision to strengthen the education system, the state government has decided to withdraw the pending Special Leave Petition (SLP) from the Supreme Court concerning the promotion of teachers. This move clears the path for the promotion of over 20,000 teachers across Rajasthan, including 5,000 teachers in the district, to senior teaching posts. Simultaneously, the government will initiate fresh recruitment for 20,000 third-grade teacher posts, generating employment opportunities for lakhs of aspirants.
Promotion to Benefit Thousands of Teachers
With the withdrawal of the SLP, third-grade teachers in the state will now be eligible for promotion to second-grade (senior teacher) positions. This long-awaited move brings relief to thousands of teachers who had been stuck in career stagnation due to legal hurdles. Teachers’ associations across the state have welcomed the decision, saying it will boost morale and ensure a more experienced teaching workforce at the senior level.
20,000 New Teaching Positions to Open Up
In a parallel effort, the education department will fill 20,000 third-grade teaching positions that will be vacated due to promotions. This strategic move ensures that schools do not face manpower shortages following the promotion wave. The department expects over 10 lakh applications for these posts, reflecting the high demand among youth for government teaching jobs.
School Staffing Pattern to Be Updated After a Decade
For the first time in ten years, the government is also preparing to implement a revised school staffing pattern, increasing the number of posts in both ongoing and upcoming recruitment drives. The education department has assured that the promotion process will be conducted transparently and fairly, ensuring that deserving teachers are rightfully promoted.
Policy Reforms to Avoid Legal Disputes
To prevent similar legal entanglements in the future, the education department plans to bring in policy-level changes. Officials said these reforms will aim to streamline promotion procedures and bring clarity in teacher service rules.
Boost to Education and Employment
The twin decisions — of promoting current teachers and hiring new ones — are part of a broader strategy to address the long-standing shortage of teaching staff in state schools. By promoting experienced teachers and inducting fresh talent, the government aims to enhance the quality of education and offer students a better learning environment.
