Rajasthan News: Ministers in BJP-ruled Rajasthan have signaled intentions to introduce the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the state, following the recent move in Uttarakhand. School Education Minister Madan Dilawar stated that the UCC Bill would be presented in the next Assembly session post Lok Sabha polls. The aim is to establish a uniform law for all citizens, fostering unity and avoiding discrepancies caused by different laws.

Push for Uniformity and Unity

The BJP government in Rajasthan, led by Chief Minister [CM's Name], is contemplating the introduction of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), following the footsteps of Uttarakhand. The UCC, aimed at establishing a single law for all citizens regardless of religion, is perceived as a step towards fostering national unity.

Ministerial Statements

School Education Minister Madan Dilawar emphasized the need for a uniform law and stated that discussions on the UCC would be initiated in the upcoming Assembly session after the Lok Sabha polls. Dilawar mentioned the subject in response to a protest by activist Tanzeem Merani, calling for a hijab ban in schools.

Cabinet minister for Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) Kanhaiya Lal expressed optimism about the UCC's implementation, aiming for Rajasthan to become the second state to pass such legislation. He highlighted the government's commitment to bringing the UCC in the next session, possibly in June-July.

Uttarakhand's Precedent

Uttarakhand recently tabled the UCC Bill, proposing a common law on marriage, divorce, inheritance, and live-in relationships for all citizens, with exemptions for Scheduled Tribes. The move sparked discussions about the potential national adoption of the UCC, with states like Rajasthan now considering similar measures.
