A new chapter in railway travel is about to begin for passengers of Rajasthan as the state is set to receive its first Amrit Bharat Express train. The service will run between Darbhanga (Bihar) and Madar (Ajmer), passing through Jaipur. Preparations have been completed, and the inaugural run will take place on October 3. Initially, the train will operate once a week.
Vande Bharat-like technology at affordable fares
The Amrit Bharat Express has been designed as India’s first push-pull train, fitted with two engines—one at the front and one at the rear. This innovation will enable the train to pick up speed within seconds, reduce jerks and vibrations, and offer a smoother travel experience. The maximum speed of the train will be 130 kmph.
Railway officials have emphasized that while the train offers Vande Bharat-like technology and comfort, its fares will remain highly affordable. The minimum fare has been fixed at just ₹35, making it only about 17% costlier than regular superfast trains but cheaper than most special trains. However, no concessions will be applicable.
22 coaches, 1,800-passenger capacity
The train will have 22 coaches, all non-AC sleeper and general class coaches, with a total seating capacity of 1,800 passengers. Each coach will be equipped with CCTV cameras, and the driver’s cabin will have air-conditioning. For safety, the train will feature the Kavach anti-collision system, eliminating the risk of accidents due to crashes.
Modern facilities for passengers
Despite being a non-AC service, the Amrit Bharat Express promises premium-level travel. Features include LED lighting, modern toilets, sensor-based water taps, foldable snack tables, comfortable cushioned seats, luggage racks, and individual mobile charging points. Additional safety systems such as auto smoke detectors and fire alarms have also been installed.
Railways officials noted that these facilities will provide ordinary passengers with a premium experience at minimal cost.
Weekly schedule
According to CPRO Shashi Kiran, the Darbhanga–Madar Amrit Bharat Express will begin operations on October 3. From Madar, the train will depart every Friday at 9:25 p.m., reaching Jaipur at 11:00 p.m., and then continue to Darbhanga, arriving on Sunday at 12:45 a.m. On its return, the train will depart from Darbhanga every Sunday at 4:15 a.m., reach Jaipur at 10:25 a.m., halt for ten minutes, and arrive in Madar at 1:20 p.m. on Monday.

A modern rail experience for Rajasthan
